There were several hundred citizens of the Plaine du Cul-de-Sac treading the macadam this Friday to say no to insecurity. From Bon-Repos to Shada, these citizens denounced the climate of terror that reigns in the neighborhoods of the Plaine du Cul-de-Sac and called on the State to assume its responsibility.

Croix-des-Bouquets, May 6, 2022.- While the death toll stands at around 75 dead, according to the United Nations Integrated Office in Haiti, citizens who have not deserted their homes marched to say no to this climate of terror which, for more than a week, paralyzed everything in neighborhoods deemed calm.

The demonstrators left the Bon-Repos roundabout to reach Shada during this march with signs in their hands in which they denounce the war which is pushing citizens to desert their homes.

Speaking at our microphones on the sidelines of this event, Jean Jonas Saint Juste, former deputy mayor of the town, denounced the loss of life and material damage caused by the gang war.

With this movement, we first want to ask the authorities to assume their responsibilities in what is being done in these neighborhoods. So we also want to ask those who left to return because more than ever we are not going to tolerate such acts,” said Jean Jonas Saint Juste, one of the initiators of the movement.

If the former mayor points out that for days a strong police presence has been observed in the Plain, he calls for this police presence to be constant so that life can resume its rights in the Plaine du Cul-de-Sac.

It should be remembered that the death toll of these armed clashes between “Chyen Mechan and 400 Mawozo” is 39 dead and 9,000 displaced, according to Civil Protection. For their part, the United Nations speaks of 75 dead.
